As South Africa prepares to host the inaugural South African Diamond Show (SADS) in February 2025, the spotlight shines brightly on the State Diamond Trader (SDT) and its new Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Nosi Mzamo.

Under her leadership, the SDT is set to reaffirm South Africa’s major role in the global diamond industry through innovation, sustainability, and ethical sourcing.

Meet the CEO

Ms. Mzamo brings a wealth of expertise and a trailblazing vision to her role as CEO of the SDT. With over 23 years of experience as a Registered Professional Scientist and management professional, she has established herself as a leading figure in the mining and geology sectors of South Africa.

Ms. Mzamo has quite an array of qualifications under her belt, she holds a B.Sc. Honours in Geology, a Post Graduate Diploma in Mining Engineering, as well as a Master’s in Business Administration. She also has several management certifications to complement her outstanding list of educational accomplishments.

Her career began in the mining industry as a Junior Geologist, where she steadily climbed the ranks. In the year 2010, she joined Mintek, serving in various strategic positions for over 13 years. Recognized for her leadership, Nosi has been a finalist in the Standard Bank Top Woman – Female Public Sector Leader Award Category (2017) and was celebrated as a Top Woman Achiever by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy in 2019. In October 2023, she assumed her current role at the SDT, bringing with her a commitment to transformation, ethical practices, and sustainable growth.

The State Diamond Trader: transforming the industry

The SDT is a key industry player in South Africa’s diamond sector, mandated to facilitate equitable access to rough diamonds and support local beneficiation, the process of adding value to raw minerals through cutting, polishing, and crafting. The SDT promotes economic empowerment, job creation, and ethical practices that ensure the traceability and sustainability of diamonds sourced from South Africa.

Under Nosi’s leadership, the SDT is embracing technological advancements and forging partnerships that align with its mission to position South Africa as a leader in the global diamond market. Central to this vision is the South African Diamond Show—a landmark event set to showcase the nation’s excellence in diamond mining, beneficiation, and craftsmanship.

The South African Diamond Show: a celebration of legacy and innovation

The South African Diamond Show, which will be hosted in Cape Town from the 2nd to the 5th of February 2025, promises to be a transformative event for the diamond industry. Under the theme “Evolution and Promotion of Natural Diamonds,” the show will bring together industry leaders, traders, and enthusiasts to celebrate South Africa’s rich diamond heritage and its innovative strides toward sustainability and ethical diamond sourcing.

At the heart of the show are themes of sustainability, innovation, and local empowerment. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore South Africa’s commitment to conflict-free diamonds through learning about SDT’s adherence to the Kimberley Process and groundbreaking technologies like AI-driven cutting and digital traceability.

The show also emphasises the economic and social impact of beneficiation, showcasing the artistry and excellence of local craftsmanship. Alongside these insights, the event offers the rare opportunity to view and acquire exquisite, ethically sourced diamond pieces, making it a captivating blend of education, networking, and commerce. The program also features thematic exhibition days and a grand gala dinner that celebrates the legacy, elegance, and economic significance of South African diamonds.

Shaping the future together

The South African Diamond Show is more than a trade exhibition; it’s a platform for collaboration, education, and innovation. By uniting stakeholders across the value chain, the show aims to shape the future of the diamond industry while promoting South Africa’s leadership in sustainability and ethical practices. As the SDT, led by Nosi Mzamo, ushers in a new era for South Africa’s diamond sector, the South African Diamond Show stands as a beacon of progress. It celebrates the country’s legacy while charting a forward-thinking path that blends tradition with innovation, a testament to the resilience and brilliance of South Africa’s diamond industry.
