Tiffany urges U.S. President Trump to keep Paris climate change agreement

15 may 2017
Tiffany & Co. has published an appeal to the U.S. President Donald Trump on an acute political and environmental issue which is unusual for the jewellery company, Rapaport reports.
Tiffany urged Trump to keep the country in the Paris Climate Agreement as the U.S. is one of the key members of the treaty.
The jeweler “strongly supports” the US remaining in the protocol, it posted on its Facebook page last Tuesday. Tiffany also used its regular advertising spot in The New York Times to send the same message.
“We’re still in for bold climate action,” read a statement addressed directly to Trump, who pledged to “cancel” the United Nations accord on his campaign trail last year.
“Please keep the US in the Paris Climate Agreement. The disaster of climate change is too real, and the threat to our planet and to our children is too great,” the New York-based retailer added.
The post, which had more than 19,000 reactions and 2,000 shares, provoked discussion in the comments about Tiffany’s decision.
Trump will wait until after the G7 summit of world leaders later this month before announcing his decision on the US’s involvement in the Paris agreement, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said.
