Stornoway sells first diamond parcel of 2018 for $14.4M

Stornoway Diamond Corporation has reported that its first sale of 2018, which was conducted on January 26, yielded gross proceeds of US$14.4 million for the sale of 138,687 carats of diamonds for an average price of US$104 per carat.
According to the company, this is the highest price achieved to date, and reflects a strengthening diamond market at the beginning of the year and appreciable improvements in breakage levels, size distribution and quality mix.
The parcel represented run of mine diamonds recovered during a four week period from mid-October to mid-November. Stornoway sold 24 special stones (larger than 10.8 carats) for an average price of US$3,210 per carat during the tender.
The tender sale, held at the Antwerp offices of Stornoway’s sales agent Bonas-Couzyn, saw 190 attendees, which was a record number for the company, Stornoway reported.
