International Jewelry & Diamond Conference-Guangzhou 2018 concludes

The International Jewelry & Diamond Conference (Guangzhou) 2018, organized by Guangzhou Diamond Exchange (GZDE) and Guangdong Gems & Jade Exchange (GDGJE) and co-organized by Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) was successfully held on November 27. More than 600 delegates from Brazil, Thailand, India, the U.S., Ukraine, Senegal, Belgium, Britain, the Netherlands, Lebanon, Canada, Singapore, Botswana, Israel, South Africa, Australia, Germany as well as Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, Taiwan, China and mainland China attended the conference.
Cathy Berx, Governor of Antwerp, Belgium; Liu Xiaolong, Deputy Director General of State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, the People’s Government of Guangdong Province; Diao Ailin, Deputy Secretary-General of Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government; Bi Lijun, Vice President of Gems & Jewelry Trade Association of China; Liu Yanhong, Deputy Secretary-General of China Gold Association; and Liu Wen, Chairman of the Board of Guangdong Exchange Holding Group, attended the opening ceremony and witnessed the signing of MoU by the Two Exchanges in the presence of other global industry organizations.

At the main forum of “The Dragon and the Diamond, The Glory and the Jewelry”, guest speakers including Liang Ming, Director of Foreign Trade Research Institute of Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation, the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, Clement Sabbagh, Chairman of the ICA, and Martin Rapaport, founder of the Rapaport Diamond Report, provided innovative ideas and reference paths for the development of the jewelry industry.
GDGJЕ and the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA) held the debut of the Chinese version InColor Magazine.
The two Exchanges held parallel sub-fora on the afternoon of November 27. GZDE initiated the establishment of the Rough Diamond Alliance to improve the participation in the rough diamonds sector and optimize China’s diamond industry supply chain. GDGJЕ established its Designer Club, providing a communication platform for domestic and foreign designers, offering related services such as intellectual property protection and development, and spurring the innovation and upgrading of the industry.
At the diamond forum under the theme of “Built to Last: Optimizing the diamond industry from supply side”, guest speakers representing the AntwerpscheDiamantkring, Diamond Producers Association, De Beers Auction Sales, AWDC, HRD Antwerp, RapNet, DIAMSLEDGER and mainstream Chinese lab-grown diamond producers and retailers carried out discussion from the perspective of optimizing the supply chain of China’s diamond industry, presenting a feast of “lively thinking” for the industry.
The jewelry forum held by GDGJE and themed as “Win Through Channel: Synergy of Jewelry Value Chain and Supply Chain” culminated in the brainstorming of sagacious ideas shared by speakers from Gemological Institute of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), Economic Forecasting Department, State Information Center,Guild Gem Laboratories, Jaipur Jewelers Association of India, Chow Tai Fook, etc.
After 2016 and 2017, the two Exchanges  have again held the International Jewelry & Diamond Conference 2018 to provide a communicating and match making platform for domestic and foreign industry companies and partners; and explore the improvement of the quality of China’s jewelry and diamond raw material supply system in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative, Greater Bay Area Strategy and the construction of the Free Trade Port. It has effectively enhanced the influence of the jewelry and diamond industry in Panyu, Guangzhou, promoting the integration of China’s jewelry and diamond industry chain into the international market, and moved towards the high end of the value chain.
