According to a high-ranking representative of Norilsk Nickel, 132 units of imported equipment and parts for the Sulfur Program at the Nadezhda Metallurgical Plant in Norilsk have been replaced with domestic analogues.
"We have a Sulfur Program, which helps us achieve radical reduction in emissions in Norilsk by 45% in 2026 and by around 95% - 97% later. And when we were implementing this project, we were faced with the fact that we have 132 types of parts and equipment that must be imported," TASS quotes the company's vice president for federal and regional programs Andrei Grachev as saying at the Innovative Practice: Science Plus Business Congress.
He added that, despite the assistance of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade in this matter, Norilsk Nickel mainly had to rely on its own efforts and the use of scientific developments achieved over the past years.
The technologies adopted for the Sulphur Program make it possible to capture at least 99% of sulphur dioxide at the main smelting units where they are used, and take into account the characteristics of the ore base of the Norilsk industrial region, the pyrometallurgical processes used, as well as the logistical constraints of Norilsk.
