Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a green hydrogen hub project in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
NTPC Green Energy Limited’s Green Hydrogen Hub project at Pudimadak near Visakhapatnam is expected to attract an investment of Rs 1.85 trillion ($21.4 billion). It is noted that the hub will be the first green hydrogen hub under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) is a 50:50 partner with NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) of the Union government in this project.
The phased investment plan envisages the first one-third of the investment of Rs 62,900 crore ($7.2 billion) in 2027. The project includes 20 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity and green hydrogen production capacity capable of producing 1,500 tonnes per day (TPD) of green hydrogen and 7,500 TPD of green hydrogen derivatives, including green methanol, green urea and sustainable aviation fuel, with a focus on export markets.
Andhra Pradesh's economy is set to reach $2.5 trillion by 2047.
