Namib Desert Diamonds (NAMDIA) has revealed that police have recovered diamonds valued at N$40.6 million ($2.2 million), out of the total N$314.9 million ($17.3 million) stolen during an armed robbery at its offices in the capital, Windhoek, on 18 January.
It said the Namibian Police Force continues to lead investigations into the incident and significant progress has been made in the recovery efforts.
“To date, NAMDIA remains committed to supporting the ongoing investigation and is hopeful that additional recoveries will be made,” the diamond sales and marketing company said.
“The police continue their diligent efforts, with two arrested suspects scheduled to appear in court on 23 May 2025.”
The quantity of diamonds stolen could not be revealed and who had the recovered stones in possession.
Meanwhile, NAMDIA said its independent internal probe into the robbery is ongoing.
The company appointed a security consultant to stabilise the security department and oversee the immediate execution of critical security enhancements.
It said the temporary suspension of the chief executive Alisa Amupolo, chief operations officer Uahoroka Kauta, and security manager Paulinus Sheyapo remains in place to ensure a thorough and impartial internal investigation.
“At this stage, there is no reason to believe that any staff members, apart from the protection officer already arrested, were involved in the robbery,” said NAMDIA.
