Anglo American mulls fresh job cuts as it continues with restructuring – report

17 march 2025

Anglo American is considering additional job cuts at its corporate office as it continues to restructure its business by selling assets and hive-off its platinum unit.

In 2023, it cut jobs at its main South African corporate office and later offloaded workers at its iron ore unit and Amplats.

Bloomberg reports citing unnamed sources that the diversified mining group sent notices to employees who are expected to be affected.

Anglo was quoted as saying that the slashing of jobs is in line with its disposals and other restructuring plans.

The miner said the number of people affected is yet to be established as consultations have just commenced.

BHP’s failed $43-billion take-over bid of Anglo in 2024 triggered the restructuring.

The company said it has offloaded its coking coal and nickel businesses and is set to hive off most of its controlling holding in Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) by June.

It is also considering selling or conducting an initial public offering for its 85%-owned diamond unit, De Beers.
