Russia’s deputy finance minister Alexey Moiseyev said that in 2025, Russia and Belarus plan to launch a joint marketplace for jewelry exports with the support of the Eurasian Development Bank.
This decision was announced following a meeting between Moiseyev and the head of the Belarussian finance ministry Yuri Seliverstov in Minsk. The negotiations also revolved around the participation of Russia and Belarus in the Kimberley Process; the cooperation between the countries in the diamond industry; the development of digital jewelry trade; and the mutual recognition of state assay marks.
Also this year, the parties will sign an agreement on the mutual recognition of assay marks and the full integration of electronic traceability systems in the jewelry industry. This step will make it possible to create a common market - a hallmark made in Belarus will be recognized in Russia, and vice versa.
During the week, a meeting of the Kimberley Process Chair with the chairmen of the organization's working bodies, as well as a meeting of the special committee on the review and reform of the Kimberley Process, took place in Minsk. As Alexey Moiseyev noted, the event brought together partners who are committed to constructive work in the field of diamond trade, including interaction with Russia and Belarus.
The participants of the meeting discussed the role the two countries play in the Kimberley Process and the prospects for cooperation between enterprises in the diamond industry. Belarus and Russia oppose the politicization of the Kimberley Process and "consider it important to adopt a new definition of conflict diamonds that corresponds to the current situation."
