ALROSA unearths largest gem-quality diamond in Russia’s history

Russian diamond mining company ALROSA has discovered a 468.30-carat fancy amber-colored diamond in Yakutia.

The stone measures 56x54x22 mm in size. It is the largest gem-quality diamond mined in Russia to date.

"2025 will definitely take a special place in the history of the Russian diamond industry," said ALROSA CEO Pavel Marinychev on the occasion of the discovery of the record diamond.

He added that the company has decided to name the unique stone in honour of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory in WWII.

Marinychev also noted that earlier in 2025, the company presented the largest diamond ever cut in Russia, weighing more than 100 carats. This work took more than two years. The diamond was named "New Sun" as a "reflection of the amazing story" of a diamond weighing more than 200 carats called "Dawn" which was discovered at the Ebelyakh placer deposit in Yakutia.
