Valterra Platinum, the newly demerged entity from Anglo American Platinum (Amplats), commenced trading on the JSE on May 28 under its new identity—marking a pivotal shift toward independence.
The company will officially separate from Anglo American on May 31, with its shares set for a secondary listing on the LSE on June 2.
At the Market Opens Ceremony in Sandton, Valterra chief executive Craig Miller underscored the company's commitment to maintaining cost competitiveness and driving value through commodity cycles, while capitalizing on platinum group metals (PGMs) growing global demand.
"PGMs are not just a resource. They’re a national advantage," he said, highlighting their role in South Africa's economy, job creation, and innovative applications—from hydrogen fuel cells to biomedical devices.
JSE chief executive Leila Fourie praised Valterra's "bold new step" toward agile, focused operations but noted the challenges ahead, including market volatility and shifting regulatory landscapes.
