Teck Resources has encountered a mechanical issue at the processing plant of its 90% owned Carmen de Andacollo copper mine in Chile which led to a maintenance shutdown.
According to the company’s estimate, emergency repairs would last for approximately one month during which production will be interrupted.
Teck also announced an unrelated temporary outage of the shiploader at the Quebrada Blanca (QB) port facility in Northern Chile, where repairs would also take approximately one month.
Nevertheless, the company expects almost no impact of the downtime on its production, and its 2025 copper output guidance remains unchanged at 490,000 - 565,000 tonnes.
Carmen de Andacollo is located in the Coquimbo Region of central Chile, near the southern limit of the Atacama Desert. Teck owns a 90% interest in the mine, while Empresa Nacional de Minería holds the remaining 10%. In 2024, copper production at the project amounted to 40,000 tonnes.
