The International Gemological Institute (IGI) has appointed Anoop Mehta as chairman and independent director of its board. His term commenced on 6 June 2025.
Prior to his appointment, Mehta was chairman and managing director of Mohit Diamonds Pvt Ltd and president of the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB). He is also a member of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), the Diamond Group and the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB).
Mehta was instrumental in setting up the Bharat Diamond Bourse, which opened in 2010 and is now one of the world’s leading diamond trading centres. His contribution to the trade has been recognised with several lifetime achievement awards, including one from the GJEPC.
According to GJEPC Chairman Kirit Bhansali, “Anup Mehta’s extensive experience and strong leadership will steer IGI to a successful and innovative future, reinforcing its reputation for trust, transparency and excellence.”
As IGI CEO Techmasp Printer stated, “A true veteran of the diamond industry, Mr. Mehta brings a wealth of knowledge, deep-rooted insight and strategic vision.”
“His extensive experience within the global diamond ecosystem will be invaluable in shaping IGI’s direction and advancing our mission to lead with expertise and integrity in gemological science,” he said.
