World's largest lab-grown diamond jewellery showroom has opened in Surat, India

02 october 2025

The world's largest lab-grown diamond jewellery showroom, Sonani Jewels, has opened in Surat, India, considered the world's diamond capital.

The two-story, 1,750-square-meter Sonani Jewels showroom features over 4,000 jewellery pieces, ranging from everyday wear to special occasions.

The driving force behind this bold initiative is Agastya Sonani, a second-generation businessman who has taken the family business to new levels of innovation. "The future of lab-grown diamonds is promising," he remarked at the opening ceremony. "Their value in the fashion, luxury, and royalty segments is increasing because of their special designs and lower prices."

The Sonani brand's history spans a quarter of a century: the company began with diamond cultivation, later expanded internationally with loose diamonds, and ultimately launched its own jewellery production, combining tradition with innovation.

The advent of lab-grown diamonds revolutionized the jewellery world. Their chemical, physical, and optical properties are identical to those of natural diamonds, but they are produced more sustainably and are often less expensive.

Surat, known worldwide as a center for cutting and polishing natural diamonds, is now a leader in the technology of creating showrooms for lab-grown diamonds.
