De Beers launches "Desert Diamonds," its largest marketing push in a decade

08 october 2025

De Beers has launched "Desert diamonds," its first new signature jewellery concept in over a decade, backed by its largest category marketing investment in more than ten years.

The initiative is designed to galvanise the diamond industry around a central idea and inspire widespread marketing efforts.

First unveiled at the JCK Las Vegas Show earlier this year, Desert Diamonds draws inspiration from the arid landscapes where many natural diamonds are formed.

The concept celebrates a spectrum of warm white, champagne and amber hues, using this natural colour variation as a marker of authenticity to help consumers connect with their diamond's unique origin.

The launch responds to a clear consumer shift toward jewellery that expresses individuality and personal meaning. De Beers' research confirmed exceptionally high purchase consideration for the concept, with over 90% of consumers stating they would like to own or would consider purchasing a desert diamond.

Celebrity influence has already boosted the trend's visibility, generating over 250,000 mentions and 450 million views across digital platforms.

Taylor Swift's engagement ring featuring a soft-hued diamond, along with desert diamond styles worn by Kim Kardashian, Doja Cat and Bad Bunny, have spotlighted these pieces as contemporary symbols of individual style.

“We are seeing desire for unique, characterful diamonds growing everywhere, from celebrity engagements to everyday style. More and more people want a diamond that reflects their own story, something truly individual to mark the most precious moments in their life,” said De Beers Brands and Diamond Desirability chief executive Sandrine Conseiller.

“With Desert diamonds, the ancient sands of time meet today’s zeitgeist for authentic beauty. Natural diamonds are unique and rare - no two are the same. Their colours have been forged by nature and perfected over billions of years. Desert diamonds represent the pinnacle of our Earth’s creations.”

Retailers, including Jared Jewelers and KAY Jewelers, are launching desert diamond collections featuring both fashion and bridal styles.

The launch will be supported by an integrated marketing campaign across television, digital, outdoor and social media, using evocative storytelling to highlight how each diamond's unique character parallels the wearer's own journey.
