ALROSA showcases a collection of investment diamonds in Nizhny Novgorod

31 october 2025
On October 29-30, Nizhny Novgorod hosted a showcase of the rarest and most valuable investment-grade polished diamonds from the ALROSA Diamond Exclusive collection. These diamonds boast flawless characteristics and exceptionally large sizes, demonstrating a stable investment return.
Demand for investment polished diamonds in Russia continues growing. Inreasingly more investors are interested in acquiring alternative assets, including rare diamonds that are less susceptible to inflation and stock market volatility. According to ALROSA Diamond Exclusive, the purchases of the investment-grade polished diamonds showed a 20-percent increase in the first three quarters of 2025 compared to the same period last year.
“Our collection currently includes over 400 investment-grade diamonds. All of them are cut and polished from Russian-origin natural rough diamonds by highly-qualified diamond cutters and polishers in the country. The key feature of these diamonds is their very rare combination of weight and quality, which gives them a high investment potential. Given the stability inherent to them and weak correlation with other assets, increasingly more wealthy investors consider such diamonds as a ‘safe haven’ amid economic uncertainty,” says Elena Sukhoveeva, Head of the ALROSA Diamond Exclusive Program.
ALROSA brought over 100 polished diamonds for viewings in Nizhny Novgorod. A 15-carat fancy yellow oval diamond is among them, as well as a magnificent example of the ‘Russian Cut’- a 13-carat round diamond with an ideal cut, polish, and symmetry. The top lots also included several polished diamond pairs, such as two five-carat round diamonds featuring the highest color grade (D).
Historically, investment-grade diamonds demonstrated returns of 3 to 7 percent per year in US dollars when a holding period was at least five years. Results are even higher for certain categories of diamonds. Thus, yellow polished diamonds have risen in price by approximately 10 percent over the past six months, while large - over 3 carats - white diamonds have risen by 5 to 8 percent.
The highlight of the viewings was the New Sun diamond - the largest one ever cut and polished in Russia. Weighing over 100 carats, it boasts a rare fancy yellow color. A team of 15 skilled cutters and polishers worked on its creation for two years, and the record-breaking diamond was first presented to Russia’s public in April 2025.
“There are very few polished diamonds in the world with similar characteristics. Over the last 30 years, only four diamonds of this color weighing over 100 carats have been offered at major international auctions. The price of the most expensive of these diamonds, sold in 2014, exceeded $16 mn, or over $160,000 per carat,” said Elena Sukhoveeva.

About ALROSA Diamond Exclusive
ALROSA, the world’s largest diamond miner, became the first company in Russia to offer polished diamonds as an investment instrument by launching the ALROSA Diamond Exclusive Program. Today, the ALROSA Diamond Exclusive collection includes over 400 rare investment-grade polished diamonds.
ALROSA Diamond Exclusive’s investment-grade diamonds are quasi-currency assets: their value is denominated in dollars and linked to the international market, with settlements in rubles. The company also provides buyback, safe custody and secure delivery services, and is able to create custom-made jewelry items without losing an investment value.
