A 46-year-old man was arrested after being found in possession of a suspected unpolished diamond at the Namdeb Scannex checkpoint in Oranjemund.
The Informante newspaper reports, citing a police crime bulletin stating that the incident occurred when an anomaly was detected by an X-ray scanner while the suspect was checking out after his shift.
He was subsequently taken to Namdeb Hospital, where a doctor retrieved an object believed to be an unpolished diamond from his body.
The suspect, an employee of Welwitschia Cleaning Service, was working under contract for Namdeb at the time.
Police have opened an investigation into the incident.
