ALROSA presents innovations on reducing CO2 emissions at Northern Forum

01 december 2025

ALROSA had presented a number of unique climate technologies at the 6th Northern Forum on Sustainable Development, dubbed "The North and the Arctic: Partnership in a Changing World."

The diamond company emphasized the significance of a comprehensive approach to addressing climate issues and the importance of unifying the efforts of businesses, government, and society to achieve emission reduction goals in production enterprises and regional projects.

The diamond company showcased its latest kimberlite mineral carbonization technology to the participants of the Forum. It allows to reliably capture and store CO2 in a stable mineral form. ALROSA became the first mining company in the world to produce carbon-neutral diamonds with a negative carbon footprint of 0.71 kg CO2 equivalent per carat of diamonds mined.

By 2030, ALROSA plans to become an industry leader in implementing environmentally friendly technologies, including responsible water use and biodiversity restoration. The company is implementing an Environmental and Climate Strategy aimed at minimizing its environmental impact, increasing energy efficiency, and reducing CO2 emissions.

ALROSA also actively supports climate initiatives, viewing this as part of the organic socio-economic development of Yakutia, taking into account the specific characteristics of the territories, culture, and traditions of the indigenous inhabitants. Supporting the indigenous peoples of the North is a key objective of the diamond company's sustainable development program.
