Severalmaz, a subsidiary of the ALROSA Group, has mined two unusually shaped diamonds resembling Christmas tree ornaments at its Lomonosov deposit in the Arkhangelsk region.
"The first diamond, weighing just over 17 carats, is shaped like a Christmas tree bauble, while the second, a 2.7-carat crystal, resembles a cute puppy," the company said in a press release.
According to Ilya Zezin, chief geologist at Severalmaz, diamonds produced by the company sometimes have unusual morphological features and stand out from stones mined at other deposits due to their rounder shapes and greater number of facets.
"Severalmaz mining operations are distinguished by the discovery of diamonds of rare shapes and colors, which are not only of scientific interest but also of aesthetic beauty," he explained.
For instance, in 2024, the company unearthed a Christmas tree-shaped diamond at the Lomonosov deposit, and in 2023, it discovered a 38-carat Cloudberry diamond, named for its resemblance to the northern berry. In 2022, it produced a 39.98-carat gem-quality diamond shaped like a butterfly.
