Following talks with the Russian Foreign Ministry, Botswana foreign minister Phenyo Butale invited Russian investors to participate in mining projects in the country.
"Our foreign policy position is that we are open to cooperation with anyone in the world who seeks mutually beneficial cooperation with us," TASS quoted Butale as saying.
"In the past, we have had companies such as Norilsk Nickel working with us, successfully mining in Botswana. We firmly believe that Botswana is the best place for investment, considering its political and economic stability. Therefore, we strongly encourage Russian investors to come to Botswana."
According to media reports, investments in the mining sector, particularly in the rare earth metals and diamonds segments, were discussed at the meeting between foreign ministers of Russia and Botswana. Botswana also intends to open an embassy in Moscow and is taking the necessary steps to do so in the near future.
