Around 1 billion carats of diamonds pass through ALROSA's sales division over 30 years

06 february 2026

ALROSA's United Selling Organization (USO), which was established in 1996 to market Russian diamonds globally, has sold approximately 1 billion carats of diamonds over the course of its history, the company's press service reported.

Rough diamonds mined in Yakutia and the Arkhangelsk region undergo sorting, expert evaluation, and pre-sale preparation at the USO before being shipped to customers worldwide. Over its 30-year history, the organization, which will soon celebrate its anniversary, has prepared approximately 200 tonnes of rough diamonds for sale. Its annual diamond sales record was set in 2021 at 45.5 million carats. The largest gem-quality diamond to pass through the UES was a 468.3-carat, fancy amber-colored crystal mined in 2025.

"Over three decades, thanks to the USO, ALROSA has created an efficient marketing model for Russian diamonds that meets the highest international standards. USO employees have played a key role in strengthening ALROSA's leadership position in the global diamond market," said Pavel Marinychev, CEO of the diamond mining company.

ALROSA noted that the USO has now implemented automation in many aspects of its operations, with the share of machine sorting reaching 60% - 90%. The final evaluation of the precious stones is always performed by USO’s experts and sorters.
