The government of Peru has approved an environmental study for the $3.4 billionTrapiche copper project owned by one of the largest mining companies in the country Buenaventura.
The environmental certification office SENACE said the evaluation of the detailed environmental impact study "guarantees the development of activities under high sustainability standards," Reuters quoted the government representatives as saying.
Trapiche is an open-pit molybdenum copper porphyry project located in the Antabamba province, discovered in 1993.
Buenaventura management believes that the mine will become one of the company's most important copper projects after its commissioning in 2030s.
