Today, on April 8, various diamond industry organizations and companies celebrated the World Diamond Day, a global initiative led by the Natural Diamond Council (NDC) aimed at boosting category marketing for natural diamonds.
India’s Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), along with Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) and All-India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC), highlighted the journey of natural diamonds from origin to finished jewellery. Stakeholders across the value chain, including artisans, retailers and consumers, shared personal stories through a coordinated social media push using #WorldDiamondDay and #NaturalDiamonds, GJEPC said.
"World Diamond Day is a platform for people to share what their diamonds truly mean to them. At a time when consumers, especially younger audiences, are looking for more meaningful ways to celebrate, this initiative offers a reason to pause and honour those moments. Natural diamonds are the perfect custodians of our memories. This day is also a reminder of why we do what we do, to bring joy, emotion, and meaning into people’s lives," said NDC managing director Richa Singh.
The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) joined the initiative and published a post dedicated to the World Diamond Day on its Instagram page, saying that the event celebrates "people, partnerships and progress that shape the natural diamond journey."
"At DMCC, home to the world's largest diamond tender facility, we are proud to connect every stage of that journey - from mine to market - enabling trust, transparency and trade at scale," the post reads.
On its part, the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) highlighted a selection of historically significant precious stones it has examined, underscoring their rarity, scientific importance and cultural legacy on the first edition of the World Diamond Day.
The World Diamond Day is a registered trademark of the World Diamond Heritage Board (WDHB) - an independent initiative dedicated to preserving, promoting, and transmitting the cultural, emotional, and historical value of natural diamonds across generations.
