Christie's is offering the Ocean Dream diamond, the largest blue-green polished diamond in existence, for sale. It is expected to fetch up to 10 million Swiss francs ($12.8 million) at its Geneva jewelry sale.
According to Christie's, the 5.50-carat, triangular-cut, Fancy Vivid Blue-Green diamond, SI1 clarity, Type IIa, is set in a ring and framed with sculpted rock crystal, round brilliant diamonds, and pink diamonds. The polished stone, the largest vivid blue-green diamond ever certified by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), comes from an 11.70-carat rough stone found in Central Africa.
The Magnificent Jewels sale on May 13 will be only the second time the Ocean Dream has been auctioned. In May 2014, Christie's sold it in Geneva for 7.8 million Swiss francs (approximately $8.7 million), and the stone remained in the same collection for the next 12 years.
Christie's will also present the Ocean Dream in Bangkok, Hong Kong, and Geneva.
