Norilsk Nickel intends to transfer the processing of one of the intermediate products from the Copper Plant in Norilsk to its Kola site in Monchegorsk, which will increase metal recovery, speed up the production process, and reduce costs.
Starting this month, the company will process copper sludge cake exclusively in Monchegorsk, where the precious metal concentrate production cycle is significantly shorter, and levels of unfinished production are lower, Nornickel said in a statement.
"All of the company's palladium (40% of global palladium output) will now be produced in Monchegorsk as concentrate," noted Olga Severinova, Chief Technologist of the Kola Metallurgical Plant.
To launch the project, the Kola MMC chemical and metallurgical shop was modernized, with investments totaling approximately 500 million rubles.
All work was carried out during scheduled maintenance windows and shutdowns, minimizing downtime. The project utilizes modern eco-friendly solutions to minimize the environmental impact.
