Tatneft has begun construction of an industrial-scale sorbent production facility with a capacity of 30,000 tonnes per year. These materials will enable the extraction of lithium from associated waters at oil fields, as reported by TASS.
While previously solid ores and salt lakes in South America were considered the main sources of lithium, oil brines and industrial waters are now being considered as promising extraction options.
A distinctive feature of Tatneft's approach is its use of existing oil production infrastructure.
