Gaydamak says Leviev owes him $2 bln from Angolan diamond deals

12 january 2012

Russian businessman Arcadi Gaydamak has reported to the Israeli police that Lev Leviev owes him $2 billion in unpaid diamond trading commissions from an Angola deal.
Idex online reports that Gaydamak had devised a new diamond marketing scheme, in Angola some 13 years ago and invited Leviev to manage the commercial side of it, adding that profits were supposed to be divided between them equally.
Gaydamak said that Leviev's acts were criminal, hence the criminal complaint against him with the Israel Police.
However, an unnamed Leviev group spokesperson said Gaydamak had “no objections to any act of fantasy or theatrics to create an appearance to the many creditors that he is working to promote, as it were, a valid claim against Leviev”.
The spokesperson added that Gaydamak does not deserve any serious response.
“Indeed, he may continue to take all those measures which only degrade him and portray him in a mocking and ridiculous way," said the spokersperson.
