ALROSA will hold in Israel a preview of its upcoming auction of rough diamonds large diamonds, 10.8 carats and larger, IDEX Online reported. This is the first time that the Russian diamond miner will hold a preview in Israel.
For many years, the Israeli diamond industry has been trying to convince ALROSA to offer rough diamonds in Israel, as it does in Antwerp and Mumbai. While not an allocation in Israel, the preview, an opportunity to examine diamonds before bidding on them, is viewed as an important step forward.
The preview spares the need to travel to Moscow to see the goods, a cost that is not recovered by traders with losing bids.
The preview follows a series of meetings in Moscow and Israel between the ALROSA Vice President Yuri Okoyomov, Arcos Diamonds Israel (a subsidiary of ALROSA in Israel) General Manager Ekaterina Berezina and Israel diamond Exchange President Yair Sahar.
The preview will take place at the offices of Arcos Diamonds Israel on February 26 – March 6, 2012
The preview is open to companies confirmed by ALROSA to participate in the auction.
