A newspaper reporter who was found with a stone at Marange Resources fields in Zimbabwe appeared before a magistrate to answer for charges of illegal possession of a diamond, according to the Zimbabwean newspaper The Herald, cited by Israelidiamond.co.il.
Moses Matenga, who works for Newsday, was found with a stone at one of Marange’s field in Chiadzwa. He was granted $20 bail, released to house arrests, and asked not to contact any witnesses.
His case will be brought to trial on March 16. The alleged theft is said to have taken place while Matenga was covering a civil society facility tour of the fields. Other journalists are reported to have joined Matenga on the tour.
He was found in possession of one piece of a suspected diamond in his hand, according to The Herald.
