ALROSA sees possible new diamond deposits in Angola

06 april 2012

Russia’s diamond monopoly, ALROSA, which concluded the first phase of a geological map of Angola, said there is a great potential to find new diamond deposits, in the African country.
Macauhub quoted the principal advisor to the chairman of ALROSA, Sergei Mityukhin, as saying that the work, which began in May 2011, had made it possible to infer the existence of as yet undiscovered kimberlitic deposits.
The head of the department of finds with geological potential in ALROSA’s new territories, Victor Ustinov, also said that there were kimberlitic deposits in southeast Angola.
He said that ALROSA was still collecting geophysical data as part of its cooperation agreement with the Angolan state diamond mining company Endiama.
Ustinov said this first stage included a geophysical survey of Angola and the distribution of areas of kimberlitic and alluvial deposits.
He also said that that the potential for undiscovered diamond deposits in Angola was very high.
