The chairman of the board at the National Diamonds Company (ENDIAMA), António Carlos Sumbula, considered results from the preliminary studies on Angola's diamond fields to be very positive. The work is being conducted jointly by ENDIAMA and ALROSA and began in May 2011 to identify diamond resources, Rapaport reported citing Angola Press.
Carlos Sumbula stated that the study is 30 percent complete. "As we complete this work, we are sure we will manage to expand Angola's known kimberlite field," he stated.
The mapping will enable the country to locate other kimberlites based on known alluvial diamonds sites, he said. As the kimberlites are tested, it will then be possible to know their resource potential and value. A prospecting phase will follow.
