Rough diamonds sales remained firm in April - Diamdel

16 may 2012

De Beers’ Diamdel, which conducts online diamond auctions, said demand for rough stones held firm in April.
It said in a statement emailed to Rough&Polished that 514 lots were made available spanning the Large, +2ct, Grainers, Smalls and Near Gem product categories at its third cycle of auctions for 2012.
Diamdel said 511 lots were sold to 94 different buyers, adding that no bidder won more than 23 (6 percent) of the lots sold.
Meanwhile, the rough diamond auctioneer said that global demand for products in the Small and Near Gem categories had shown the greatest increases in recent weeks.
”Global demand from rough diamond buyers for our products has steadily improved so far in 2012,” said Diamdel chief executive Neil Ventura.
“This pick-up in demand is both broad based across the geographic markets we serve and across the product categories we offer.”
He said demand from Indian based businesses had shown the most robust growth so far this year, with a greater number of buyers committing more money to purchase products across the product range.
