Christie’s Auction in New York Accrued Over $14.5M

22 june 2012

Christie’s New York sale of Important Jewels held on June 12 achieved a total of $14.6 million, with strong prices seen for quality diamonds.
Rings studded with highest quality white and fancy diamonds gained popularity and enjoyed vast demand of the bidders.
Within the scope of the sale Christie’s offered a selection of over 180 exquisite items, including investment-quality diamonds, rare gemstones, and period jewels.
Among the highlights of the June sale was an array of large top-quality diamonds, including more than a dozen colorless stones rated as D, E or F – the finest color quality possible.
The sale also featured a selection of signed jewels from vintage and modern periods, including an Art Deco diamond bracelet by Cartiercirca 1930 (estimate: $200,000-300,000) and a selection of designs by Van Cleef & Arpels, Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co., Cartier and Marina B.
The total sale was expected to achieve in excess of $10 million.
The top lot of the auction was a 22.46-carat rectangular-cut E color diamond ring by David Webb, mounted in platinum. The jewel was sold for $1.9 million, equivalent of $83,500 per carat, to an anonymous bidder.
The Top 6 lots included rings with white and yellow diamonds which yielded almost $9 million and accounted for over 60% of the total revenue of the auction house.
