Gemfields is set to boost the trading of its cut and polished Zambian emeralds to India and the greater Asian market following the opening of new sales offices in Mumbai and Jaipur.
Rapaport quoted the gemstone miner as saying that the emeralds would be sourced directly from its distribution partners.
Gemfields also said that its international trading offices in London, South Africa and India would help to ensure a consistent supply of bespoke, fine and commercial Zambian emeralds to all the key markets.
It said retailers and designers had been reluctant to use the Zambian emeralds in their designs and collections.
This, Gemfields, said was a result of limited access to fine goods and little knowledge or education on the difference between the different origins of supply.
