Following the results of the first half of 2012, Russia exported a total of 15.4 million carats of rough diamonds at the total price of $2 billion, Finmarket.ru reported citing the data based on the Kimberley Process certificates published by Ministry of Finance.
Russia’s rough diamond exports for the first half of 2011 was fixed at 18.12 million carats worth $1.858 billion.
In the second quarter of 2012 Russia exported 6.88 million carats of rough diamonds worth $967 million, compared to 8.88 million carats at the total price of $1.065 billion exported for the relevant period in 2011.
Subject to the data for 1H 2012, released by Finance ministry, Belgium has become the largest consumer of Russian rough diamonds having purchased 9.4 million carats of natural diamonds worth a total of $1.29 billion. India is the second largest buyer of the Russian rough goods having imported 3.75 million carats worth $381 million, followed by UAE (1.32 million carats worth $74 million).
Russia’s imports of rough diamonds for the period in report amounted to 63,100 carats, equivalent of $40.9 million. In terms of value, Belgium is the largest supplier of rough goods to Russia which purchased 5,370 carats of rough diamonds worth $20.8 million. Meanwhile, by volume the vast part of rough diamond procured by Russia was bought from Great Britain (48,480 carats of diamonds worth $336,000).
