The gem and jewellery industry is almost stepping into its wedding and festive season, and just around the corner is a major trade show – the September Hong Kong Gem and Jewellery Fair, Diamond World noted in its Weekly E-Post. This show has always been seen as the barometer to the Asian markets, Hong Kong and China. As such, it has garnered high participation from all major diamond centres. This year too it expects heavy participation, underlining not only the importance Asian markets continue to hold, but also the hope that the markets will see some pick-up in demand.
The backdrop to the fair has some positivity in the air, with the drop in De Beers’ rough prices, the slight upswing in India’s retail demand. Also, the show being slated just before the year’s peak festive season, gives the participants a much needed and major opportunity to push business and close the year on a more positive note. Also, will the demand in China open up industry sentiments is what remains to be seen.
With all eyes pinned to the Fair, if the show does deliver well, the industry can certainly celebrate!
