Kaliningrad Region Mulls Additional Investment to Amber Industry

Authorities of the Kaliningrad Region have taken steps to bring back and develop the “Amber” brand, according to a statement by Dmitry Chemakin, Minister of Industry of the region, speaking at XI International Investment Forum in Sochi, Russian Jewellery Network reported citing Interfax.
“The region produces approximately 500,000 tonnes of amber annually. We do put high hopes on this industry. We aim to bring the amber project back to the Kaliningrad Region, in Russia. We believe this strategy will contribute to creation of up to 7,000 jobs, following investment around 3 million rubles to both mining and processing industries,” – Chemakin stated without specifying in what terms the above funds are to be invested.
According to the minister’s statement, the regional authorities will introduce the strategy for amber industry development till 1 December, 2012.
“The strategy to be focused on expansion of amber processing volumes and quality of processing, establishment of jewellery schools and resurrection of Amber brand in Russia,” – Chemakin added.
