Following the results of the first nine months of 2012, Russia exported a total of 20.058 million carats of rough diamonds at the total price of $2.688 billion, PRIME agency reported citing the data published by Ministry of Finance.
Therefore the volume of natural diamond exports posted a year-on-year decrease by 24.4% (compared to 26.528 million carats of rough stones exported in the similar period of 2011), while Russia’s exports by value declined by 10.4% (against $3.001 billion for the first nine months of 2011).
Subject to the data released by Finance ministry, Belgium has become the largest consumer of Russian rough diamonds having purchased 12.021 million carats of natural diamonds worth a total of $1.728 billion. India is the second largest buyer of the Russian rough goods having imported 5.055 million carats worth $502 million, followed by UAE (1.858 million carats worth $82.1 million) and Israel (516,100 carats worth $248.1 million).
Meanwhile, rough diamond imports to Russia saw a year-on-year decrease by 20.8% to 111,400 carats for the period in report compared to 140,700 carats for the first nine months of 2011, while rough imports by value has doubled from $40,7 million to $84,7 million.
In 2011 Russia reduced rough diamond exports by 20% to 32.347 million carats worth $3.811 billion. Diamond imports in 2011 jumped 1.8 times compared to 2010 and reached 140,700 carats, while its value declined by 33% to $40.7 million.
