Angolan diamond sales company Empresa de Comercialização de Diamantes (Sodiam) is pushing for the establishment of a local diamond brand.
Macauhub quoted company’s managing director, Santo António Soares da Silva as saying that the move was meant to identify diamonds mined and processed in Angola.
“[The idea is to] create something that identifies us and gives us prestige, so that we can be proud of diamonds cut in Angola,” he said.
Macauhub also report that the vision of the Angolan government was for Sodiam, a subsidiary of Empresa Nacional de Diamantes de Angola (Endiama), to develop a jewellery business in order to add value to the local diamonds as well as diversify the country’s economy.
