Gareth Penny to Chair Norilsk Nickel Board

Board of Directors of Norilsk Nickel will be chaired by Irishman Gareth Penny, according to a statement by headhunting company Heidrick & Struggles, cited by Forbes.ru.
“We finalized the search of Chairman of Board for Nornickel,” – stated Yaroslav Glazunov, a Moscow-based partner at Heidrick&Struggles, adding that on 1 February, 2013, Penny has signed an agreement to stand for election to the board, and the main shareholders in Norilsk, the world's largest nickel and palladium producer, have approved Mr. Penny's candidature.
The company is expected to elect the chairman in a couple of months time.
Glazunov noted that search for a candidate was initiated on 21 December while first interviews were scheduled on 10 January. At the end of January Vladimir Potanin (CEO OF Norilsk Nickel) and Oleg Deripaska and Alexander Abramov (the main shareholders) approved Penny to be nominated to this position.
50-year-old Gareth Penny used to chair diamond mining giant De Beers from 2006 till 2010. His recent position is Executive Chairman of the Board at New World Resources Plc, one of Central Europe's leading hard coal and coke producers.
