Catoca to start Zim diamond exploration next year - report

30 october 2013

Angola's Catoca is expected to start diamond exploration in Zimbabwe next year following a mining agreement signed between the two countries last week.
Angolan state news agency Angop reports that Catoca was expected to explore two fields in the southern African country.
"Angola has a mining tradition that is now undergoing great growth and some experience in external investments which we want to extend to Zimbabwe," Geology and Mines Minister Francisco Queiroz was quoted as saying.
He said the agreement could also pave way for Angola to explore other minerals besides diamonds in Zimbabwe.
Russia's Alrosa and Angola's state-owned Endiama each own 32.8 percent of the mine, which was responsible for about three-quarters of the diamonds extracted in Angola.
