Dubai’s rough diamond exports rose 6 percent year on year to $7.296 billion in 2013, the Dubai Diamond Exchange (DDE) reported cited by Rapaport. By volume, rough exports grew 12 percent to 68.266 million carats, while the average price of Dubai’s rough exports fell 5 percent to $106.88 per carat.
Dubai’s rough imports rose 11 percent to $5.116 billion during the year, with the volume of imports up 11 percent to 67.481 million carats. The average price of the imports was flat at $75.82 per carat. Dubai's net rough exports, representing exports minus imports, fell 5 percent to $2.179 billion in 2013.
DDE did not provide data regarding its polished trade with the last available data dating back to 2011. The exchange published rough diamond trade data for the first five months of 2014 but did not provide comparable data from 2013.
During the first five months of the year, rough exports amounted to $3.389 billion from 27.908 million carats at an average price of $121.40 per carat. Rough imports amounted to $2.303 billion from 35.108 million carats at an average price of $65.61 per carat.
