Russia sees rough diamond export rising 8% and import fall 2.5 times

Russia's natural rough diamond export gained 8% in the first half of 2014 compared to the corresponding period last year. Meanwhile import fell to 11,000 carats, which is 2.5 times lower than the result of last year's corresponding period, ITAR-TASS reports quoting Russian Ministry of Finance.
In value terms export registered +8.7% reaching $2.5 billion, import fell 1.7 times to $28 million. In the accounting period Belgium was the major importer from Russia (4.6 million carats for the total of $700 million). Significant amounts of Russian diamonds were directed to India (1.6 million carats worth $170 million) and the United Arab Emirates (752,000 carats worth $58 million).
