Newfield discovers diamondiferous kimberlites outside of known Siera Leone diamond fields

Newfield Resources said its kimberlite discovery at the Lake Popei Project in Sierra Leone has been independently confirmed as diamondiferous.
It said in a statement that four microdiamonds had been recovered from the tests conducted for microdiamond mineralisation on the historical drill core.
"The discovery of a diamondiferous kimberlite outside of the known diamond fields of Sierra Leone is a major milestone in the identification of a new diamond field," it said.
"This exciting development contributes to further understanding of longstanding speculation as to an alternate source of the alluvial diamonds occurring outside of the known Koidu and Tongo diamond fields."
Newfield said it would now speedup its work programme to confirm the occurrence of macro diamonds in the area.
The company recently raised $2.5 million to progress the Sierra Leone project, which covers three granted tenements over 540 square kilometres.
Newfield purchased an earth moving fleet and Dense Media Separation plant funded by equity, with the plant commissioning and first diamond production milestone scheduled for December quarter 2014.
