Surat-based diamantiares have demanded the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) facility at the Surat Hira Bourse (SHB) customs house, for a hassle-free export as well as fast reimbursement of duty draw back.
Recently, an industry delegation representing the trade, put forth the issues to the Commissioner of Customs, saying that the diamond cutting and polishing centre in
Surat is facing difficulties due to the non-availability of EDI facility at the customs house at SHB.
According to the delegation, the Surat-based companies are required to get all the formalities done from Mumbai Customs and therefore face practical issues and cost
burden as well.
They complained that the release of Customs Duty from Mumbai office is unduly delayed, which disturbs the working capital cycle of the manufacturers.
According to sources, the Commissioner of Customs, Captain Sanjay Gehlot has assured the delegation that EDI facility will be started at the SHB at the earliest.
