ALROSA to build the new “Burevesnik” Innovation Centre by 2017 for $26 million

The new “Burevesnik” Innovation Centre, which is an ALROSA subsidiary, will be constructed at Novoorlovskaya special economic zone in St.Petersburgh and will cost ALROSA $26 million, as reported by gold.1prime.ru.
The official governmental contract stated the maximum cost of construction at $26 million. This will include the preparation of the detailed design, construction and assembly works, installation of equipment, all the necessary adjustments, final commissioning of the facility and the overall report on conformity of the new Centre with all the technical requirements.
The Innovation Centre is meant to promote the increased production and development of X-Ray equipment used in diamond industry and installed at rough diamond processing plants. The period of construction of the new facility should not exceed 820 days after the finalization of the contract. Application forms by construction companies are to be handed in by December 19 2014. The first stage of the tender will end on January 19, 2015, the final results will be announced on February 20, 2015.
The parent company of the “Burevesnik” Research and Production Enterprise, ALROSA, approved the new innovation facility project to be built in St.Petersburgh.
ALROSA officials said, “The existing levels of production and worn-out facilities limit our performance capabilities. Meanwhile, our market inquiry suggests that there should be more output of production including the new types of machinery for diamond industry.”
Transfer of manufacturing operations will give ALROSA an opportunity to create a state-of-the-art facility, which will produce the high-tech X-Ray equipment and might bring in more than $37 million a year.
The revenues of “Burevesnik” company reached $12 million in 2013. The Research and Production Enterprise “Burevesnik” deals with the development and production of equipment for diamond production at ALROSA and third-party ore refinery plants. X-Ray separation equipment produced by “Burevesnik” company takes up about 25 percent of the world’s market.
