Forest trees to be planted by the Miner’s Day in Vorkuta

14 july 2022

The action will be held with the support of the Project Office for the Development of the Arctic (PODA)

The forest trees will be planted in the historical part of the urban district of Vorkuta, on the site of the first village, from which the history of this polar city began. The news is reported by goarctic.ru.

“For planting, acclimatized seedlings from the tree nurseries located in the Komi Republic and the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District will be ordered. Volunteers will start preparing the area for planting a forest (marking, clearing, preparation of a field camp) from August 15 to 28. By August 28 (Miner’s Day), we will bring the seedlings to Vorkuta and start planting. The planting of the forest trees by volunteers should be completed by September 30,” says Eduard Petrov, Chairman of the board of the “Russian Arctic Park”, Komi republican public organization for the development of tourism.

The project received financing (100,000 roubles) under the PODA’s grant scheme. The Project Office for the Development of the Arctic’s grants can be received by individuals and legal entities for the projects related to the sustainable development of the Russian Arctic.

Previously, the Project Office for the Development of the Arctic participated in the “Garden of Remembrance” campaign for several years. Within its framework, acclimatized tree seedlings were planted in the Murmansk Region at memorial sites associated with the Great Patriotic War.
