Norilsk may become a key point for the development of the Arctic

12 august 2022
The agreement on cooperation and interaction in the development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation was signed by Dmitry Karasev, Mayor of Norilsk  and Alexander Stotsky, Director General of the autonomous non–profit organization "Expert Center - Arctic Development Project Office" (PORA in Russian abbreviation) .
PORA acts as a developer of the strategy for socio-economic development of Norilsk as a key city in the Arctic.
"The development of this strategy will make Norilsk one step closer to the recognition of our city as the capital of the Russian Arctic. This is very important for us," Korasev said.
He stressed that Norilsk, located on the Taimyr Peninsula, is one of the largest industrial cities in the world located in the Arctic zone.
In turn, Stotsky noted that the provisions that would form the basis of the strategy would have to be determined by the citizens themselves, whom he urged to take part in the collection of proposals initiated on a specially created portal for this purpose.
PORA serves as a base platform for producing a strategy focused on the development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation until 2035, which is stipulated by an agreement with the Russian Federation Ministry for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, sgnorilsk.ru writes.
