More than 24 million tons of cargo transported along the Northern Sea Route

28 september 2022
Since the beginning of the year, more than 24 million tons of cargo have been transported along the Northern Sea Route, reported ttelegraf.ru reported.
In general, cargo traffic on the highway may grow to 90 million tons. Such figures are spelled out in the recently approved strategy for the development of the NSR and are achievable in modern conditions, experts say.
In 2030, cargo traffic should grow to 216 million tons, in 2035 – to 238 million tons.
In addition, the cargo turnover of the Northern Sea Route is formed due to the transportation of products and cargo of the Norilsk Nickel company, as well as social goods and construction materials for large projects currently being implemented.
"Last year, 34 million tons of cargo were transported through the NSR. This year we expect approximately the same level of cargo traffic. At the moment, more than 24 million tons have already been transported. Of these, about 60% are accounted for by Yamal LNG products and 20% are hydrocarbons from the New Port project. Timely and safe cargo delivery opens up wide opportunities for the integrated, accelerated development of the Arctic and Far Eastern territories of Russia," said Mikhail Kuznetsov, head of Vostokgosplan.
The government approved the financing of the NSR until 2035 in the amount of 1.8 trillion rubles. In the Arctic, it is planned to build a liquefied natural gas and gas condensate terminal "Morning", an oil loading terminal "Bay North", a coal terminal "Yenisei" on Taimyr.
