(porarctic.ru) – Yesterday, St. Petersburg gave a start to the All-Russian Forum “Preservation and Development of the Native Languages of the Indigenous Peoples of Taimyr. 90 years of Practice" held at the Institute of the Peoples of the North, which is part of the A.I. Herzen Russian State Pedagogical University. It was organized by the administration of the Taimyrsky Dolgano-Nenetsky municipal district with the participation of the regional education department, the Taimyr House of Folk Art, the Taimyr Local Foundation for the Promotion of Science, Culture, Education and Sports "Krasnoyarsk Arctic" (St. Petersburg).
Within the frames of this Forum, its organizers held the Day of Languages and Folklore of the Samoyed Peoples on October 19 dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Kazimir Labanauskas, linguist, folklorist, and ethnographer. Tatyana Druppova, Deputy Head of Taymyr, delivered a welcoming speech at the plenary session.
On October 20, specialists from the Taimyr House of Folk Art, in cooperation with the Institute of the Peoples of the North, will hold the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Entsy. Nganasany. Nenets. National-Cultural Identity”.
The Forum will end this Friday, October 21, with the All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference "Taimyr Creative", which will set a new vector for the development of ethnic education through the prism of the development of creative industries and ethnic tourism in the Russian Arctic.
Director General of the Project Office for the Development of the Arctic Alexander Stotsky and other employees of the Project Office for Arctic Development (abbreviated as PORA in Russian) will talk about projects to preserve and revive the Enets language. This includes the creation and consolidation of writing in this Taimyr language (the speakers of which are very few), the publication of textbooks in print and video formats.
Also, the Taimyr delegation will talk about the experience of interaction with non-commercial organization and subsoil users on the development of native languages and culture, present the experience of the municipal district in creating and developing teaching aids on the native languages of indigenous peoples. In addition, an exhibition of other teaching aids developed by Taimyr authors on native languages will be organized within the framework of the conference.
The Forum is also attended by specialists from the Information Methodological Center, the Taimyr College, and the Arctic Center of Culture. The event is held within the framework of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages, declared by the UN General Assembly, with the financial support of Norilsk Nickel and the Project Office for Arctic Development.
